What We Do
We are the McMahon family, and we have owned and operated Thomac Essential Oils for 20 years. We’re located high up in the hills of the Magoebaskloof in Limpopo Province, South Africa, between beautiful grasslands and lush indigenous bush.
Our main product is Helichrysum Splendidum essential oil, and we happen to be the only producer of this specific essential oil in the world. We wild harvest our Helichrysum Splendidum from the surrounding hillsides, which means it’s organic and sustainable, never cultivated, and remains a functioning part of the natural ecosystem.
Helichrysum Splendidum is incredibly medicinal and we pride ourselves in maintaining all of its beneficial properties through a meticulous and pure distillation process. Learn more about Helichrysum Splendidum and its benefits here.
We believe in living in harmony with nature and with people. Our organic oils are steam distilled from wild harvested plants growing in the mountainous region of the eastern escarpment in the Limpopo Province, situated in the northern regions of the republic of South Africa.
The still is situated on our rural farm and the water used in the distillation process is drawn from a natural spring rising in an indigenous forest.
The air in the area is pollution free due to its remoteness from any built up areas, and the boiler, which is used to generate the steam for the distilling process, is fired using alien vegetation such as Eucalyptus and Black Wattle, both of which are declared weeds infesting the area.
We at Thomac Essential oils believe empowerment is important, Our labor force is mainly women from the area .
The harvesters work on a contractual basis which allows them to manage their time in conjunction with their daily lives.
Learning about nature and the environment is one of the most important parts of growing up. We host lectures and tours for the local schools where we teach the students about life sciences – they even get to see a tarantula and a snake up close and personal!
